Software Freedom Day (SFD) 2008 an "OK" affair
Being a part of the web-development team, quiz team and a part of the whole Software Freedom Day (SFD) team in 2006 as a collaborative effort of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) Nepal Community was a great experience. It was a learning experience with chances to lead and to follow great leaders. Those 2-4 months from June 06- mid Sept 06 was a time I found new potentials in myself. In 2007 due to my internship and exam I was not able to contribute to FOSS Nepal community and could not even attend SFD 07 :-( and this year being busy I could not help but at least attend the "DASHAIN" for FOSS enthusiasts in Nepal today.
As in yester-years this year also Yela Maya Kendra became the venue to hold the most important event in FOSS Nepal community but unlike previous years I found the crowd very less this year. It was more like a FOSS members meet with some people that may have come due to word of mouth publicity. I don't know but in yester-years people used to queue up for
registration but this year when a Minister is opening the event there was so less presense of the public.Well on the whole, the programs being carried out were ok but inadequate this time there was no project demo or even distro demo. I found the SFD 08 black and white compared to the one I was actively involved in two years back. Anyways we had an open space and I was good. We mainly advocated about using Model-View-Controller (MVC) Pattern in web development, how it helps to stick to a standard and make code better readable, usable and maintainable on the long run.
The open space discussion went quite OK but I expected more questions and participation. None the less we got some interested people and it was fun to discuss such things with like minded people who share same interest. Other than that the Open movie was a great one, animated movie Big buck bunny. Then a session by Bibek Shrestha about Drupal 6 was also cool but he went fast ;-). It was an ok experience may be I had expected more as I heard lots about SFD 07 and it even got the best event award last year.

On the whole the hours spent at Yela Maya Kendra was good, productive and helpful. Lastly happy Software Freedom Day 2008.

Drona Music Review – Dhruv’s music a new trend setter
The temperate but exuberant promos mark the coming of the second super hero in bollywood “Drona” which has one similarity with the first one Priyanka. Drona may be one of the most
awaited releases of this year, let’s scrutinize the music of Drona sewn into the movie by Dhruv Ghanekar. All the lyrics have been penned by Viabhav Modi a new name in the music scene of Indian tinsel town.
The compilation makes a promising start with the title track itself “Drona”; it’s effortlessly vocalized by the music director himself Dhruv and back vocals are given by Sunidhi Chauhan. On the first listen I was confused if it was the Maestro Rahman singing but to my surprise it was Dhruv. Well the voice is narcotic and the music grabs you from the word go but the lyrics are just about average. The next number is “Oop Cha” crooned with full justice to the innovative music by Sunidhi Chauhan with contributions from Nandini and Dhruv. The composition is mediocre but the arrangement keep the momentum going the use of modern synthetic sound throughout the song makes it stand out. Consequently, my favorite slow track of the album hits the ears “Bandagi” which has been exquisitely rendered by soothing vocals of Sunidhi Chauhan and Roop Kumar Rathod. Its been time we heard from the silk voiced Roop Kumar after Maula Mere but here he does a marvelous job. The notes have been put together is superb fashion by Dhruv and the lyric stands out in this track. Well so to say the change from a modern 4/4 beat song to a semi classical gem has been achieved perfectly. After it Sadhana Sargam voices “Nanhe Nanhe” where back vocals are given by Nandini Shrikar. In the same flow as the previous track this is also a slow track, earthy composition with use of traditional instruments and unsophisticated lyrics this song will be like a slow poison to hit you after some listens.
At track 5, Shaan croons “Khusi” with a big team of back vocals including Suzzanne, Francosis,
Dean and Sunaina. The lyric are impish with a person falling in love. Shaan does a great job as usual the music is also up to the mark. It’s a good song overall with the 70’s feel with some fine tuned air instruments. Next is “Drona Redux” sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and back vocals by Dhruv. The song is heavy on percussion and synthetic sounds but lack the pace at some point. It is sure to make you shake a leg though. Finally “Oop Cha Fare play Mix” plays which is vocalized by Sunidhi as the original with Rab by Bob and Omulo and back vocals by Dhruv and Nandini. The mix is a fusion of synthetic sounds and desi beats. Still the pace is not satisfactory.
On the whole the album is heady mix of slow and fast tracks with a mediocre singer selection. Dhruv himself sang a song and gave back vocals in some tracks and Sunidhi as the main singer for the slow track Bandagi could have been bettered. It’s a refreshing change and a new trend to mix slow and fast track this way, a job well done. Grab this album, if you want a different kind of sound hitting your ears.

Is Nepal a state of India???
I was just going thru some news from my Google Reader about Nepal. I stumbled upon a news about today's protest at Reuters , one of the most trusted news sources. But amazingly it was put under India, see below: (click on the picture to get a better view, all pictures open in new tab/window)
Then I thought if Reuters a British based news service and former financial market data provider that provides reports from around the world to newspapers and broadcasters puts Nepal's news under India category then what picture will the world have about Nepal?? So I contacted Reuters about this here in the corrections page.
Moreover, the story ends with a link to a blog like below:
So I See the blog page, it does not have a single post with the word Nepal, as seen below (click on picture to have a better view):
Then I contacted Reuters as below (Click on picture for a better view):
Again another news I read in Bloomberg.com here, the news was under the category "India & Pakistan", see below:
So I contacted Bloomberg.com as well with similar writing as above, and got the following ticket:
TicketID: W00311248970528373600
Status: Waiting
Summary: Why News of Nepal Placed under India & Pakistan Category

I will inform in comments about the reactions? I don't know how many other news websites and TV channels etc still try to portray Nepal as an Indian state but we must try to establish our own identity.
Why is Nepal just free in words, not in action?

A developer's Pain
We always read that requirements change at last minute, unrealistic goals etc always hampers the development process. Everyone's job is hard but a developer/programmer's job is no different:
